5,376 Layer Feather Damascus: Feather Fighter Part. 2

I'm making 5,376 layer feather damascus (256 "W" layers)! Feather damascus is very near and dear to me since early in my knifemaking journey feather pattern damascus was one of my most ordered patterns, there were only a small handful of makers, at that time, making feather damascus. It's been a while now since I've made some feather damascus, join me as I pour myself into this new edged-art creation. First off we're forging out a feather damascus fighter with feather damascus fittings and a hunting knife. I'm using sheet metal and the welder to seal off the layers as I forge weld damascus so they're not exposed to atmosphere to achieve super clean forge welds with no flux required. I am a full-time Mastersmith knifemaker, and I love my job! I specialize in forged fixed blade knives and also make many other types of edged art.

In March of 2007, I went to the W.F. Moran School of Bladesmithing in Old Washington, Arkansas where I took a two week class on Intro to Bladesmithing under ABS Mastersmiths Burt Gaston and Greg Neely. This is where I learned how to make a blade that would pass the ABS Journeyman Smith Performance Test, after that I took a class on Handles and Guards under ABS Mastersmith Jim Walker where I learned how to make handles out of stag, exotic woods and many other materials.

In June, 2011 I received my Mastersmith Stamp at the Atlanta BLADE Show. Now that I have been granted my MS certification I have a desire to expand my field and continue learning and teaching what I learn, God has given me all the opportunities and teachers that I’ve had and I thank Him for giving me the ability to do something I love.
