I Just Built a Custom MCP Connector Between Claude and QuickBooks Online
— and it does so much more than the native QBO connector
What if you could tell Claude to sign a new QuickBooks Online client, set them up as a customer, create an onboarding invoice for $5,000, and email it — all from a single prompt?
That's exactly what I built. And in this video, I'm going to teach you how to build it too, in just 12 steps.
The native QuickBooks Online connector inside Claude is cool, but it's limited. It can read data, but it can't create customers, create items, generate invoices, or send emails. This custom MCP server changes all of that.
In this step-by-step tutorial, I'll walk you through everything — from installing Node.js and setting up your Intuit Developer account, to building the server with Claude Code, configuring your API keys, and submitting for Intuit approval. No coding experience required. You just need to follow the instructions and let Claude do the heavy lifting.
💡 Biggest tip: Use Claude to learn how to use Claude. That's how I built this — and that's how you'll troubleshoot anything that comes up along the way.
🔗 All prompts, the SOP, and step-by-step instructions are available in the Talk Nerdy to Me community: https://nerdyurl.com/qbo-mcp
