Hello hello! Happy pride!!! Ahhh it's so nice to get another video out so soon. The gap between the last two were was way too long and turbulent... Overall, I'm ecstatic about how much I improved throughout the process of making the Anamnesis Lords video, when it came to making this one, it was honestly a piece of cake from start to finish. It was fully intentional for the Anamnesis Lords project to be a way for me to push myself in every single way as a creative and I can confidently say that the excellence of this pride video here is proof that it was worth it. Now that I think about it, I don't really have a short and simple name to call this video... Maybe I'll call it the "Gay" video? Haha that looks nice actually! The "Gay" video actually formed from a tangent of the ACTUAL video I intended to make for pride 2026. The concept of the original pride video kind of split into two, and this part of it seemed like the more compelling topic to cover first. I intend to finish what I started with my original concept after this one, but I won't beat myself up if I can't release it before the end of June... I hate giving myself deadlines!!

On this video, I wanted to say upfront that a lot of what I said was informed by my experience as an old man who has a lot of firsthand experience with queer characters and queer coding in gaming and other media, and I've come through a long journey with it as I've witnessed how many other types of people interact with this stuff. For Fire Emblem specifically, I am very thankful that Nintendo fans are very liberal leaning and that FE fans are probably the furthest in that direction within Nintendo's ecosystem. I pinned a comment a while back on my Eikþyrnir video from someone who aptly put why FE fans are so diverse and progressive because that's always been one of the things I appreciated the most about this series. It has fostered this kind of environment for a very long time through their characters and storylines.

Part of what I wanted to do with this video was make the case for queer coded characters. I know a lot of people really enjoy simply romancing queer characters and leaving it at that, but I wanted to really spotlight how queer representation can be entertaining and meaningful outside of romance too. I've seen some folks express hesitation when identifying with characters who aren't explicit enough with their identities, and I know the feeling exactly, but personally I still appreciate that kind of queer coded writing for what they are. Of course I'll always advocate for more representation, but I'll never adopt an all-or-nothing mentality with queer coded characters because I just don't think that's constructive or progressive.

I'd also like to note that somehow I managed to talk about Ike in all four of my scripts so far... I actually intended my first ever video to cover Ike's sexuality years before I even started this channel, but things develop in funny ways LMAO. I'm glad I haven't fully covered it yet though, 'cause I think the longer I wait, the better it'll be. My first video had a section relating to queer characters but I feel like my thoughts are much better developed now than they were then. I hope that came through in this video!
