MA Remodel - Cold Climate Strategy

Tag along as Steve Bazcek walks us through his Real Ranch Remodel project in Massachusetts. This is a 1970’s ranch that is getting a super efficient gut remodel. Leaving much of the existing structure, Steve added some gorgeous woodwork to the interior lids, including a masterfully crafted barrel vaulted ceiling in the family room. This project not only has some amazing woodwork, but some high performance details including a radiant floor heating system that is the best around, by Warmboard. Steve also detailed some top of the line windows, sourced from European Architectural Supply. These windows look like wood, but are Schuco UPVC windows with a veneer-like film that matches the window trim species. These windows are beautifully showcased in the sunroom (aka Steve’s room) where a 13’ x 6’ window sits next to a 300 lbs lift-n-slide that moves with little to no effort. Matt isn’t used to basements since you don’t see many in Texas, but this house has a sizable one with a craft room and lots of space for plumbing manifolds and the boiler. In the attic, Steve shows Matt a humidifier from Aprilaire that helps add humidity to space in the winter so the space doesn’t feel dry. From the backyard you can really see why it is important to include an architect in most any project. Steve added three bump-outs to the back, that blend in and seem like they have always been there. The height, scale, and roof design really help this, and prevent these additions from looking overwhelming or out of place.
