Icon Map for Healthcare

To showcase what's possible with location intelligence and icon map, I've created an example exploring access to care providers across England.

This interactive report demonstrates how multiple open datasets can be joined spatially to uncover powerful, location-based insights.

We’ve mapped nearly 60,000 healthcare providers using open data from the Care Quality Commission (CQC), represented by distinct icons. Users can filter providers by region, type, rating, or specialism to focus on areas of interest.

As you pan and zoom the map, a range of supporting charts and maps reveal further insights:
- Population by age, gender, and geography
- Local demographic profiles
- NHS hospital waiting lists by treatment type

Additional contextual layers can be toggled via a Power BI UI built with bookmarks and the new button slicer visual, including:
- Healthcare administrative boundaries
- Index of multiple deprivation as a choropleth
- 15-minute drive-time zones around hospitals
- 5-minute drive-time zones to care providers
- Access to public transport
- National bus routes

Interactive Report Page Tooltips show provider summaries and CQC ratings, with drill-through pages offering detailed local information and accessibility analysis.

And of course it's all built in PowerBI so easily extendible with additional datasets and map layers.
