The Nigerian Senate has condemned recent xenophobic attacks on Nigerians in South Africa, describing them as barbaric and unacceptable.

The issue was raised by Akpan Ekong, citing repeated violence, loss of lives, and destruction of property. Adams Oshiomhole called for tougher sanctions on South African businesses in Nigeria, while Ahmed Lawan advised a diplomatic approach based on past strategies.

Senate President Godswill Akpabio also condemned the attacks, stressing African unity and human rights.

The Senate proposed sending a delegation to South Africa for dialogue and observed a minute of silence for victims, while urging stronger protection for Nigerians abroad.
