Connecting Unbalanced RCA to XLR - OK for DJs?

With a one-pin RCA to XLR connection it's easy to send your RCA output to speakers in a pinch. However, this won't give you a balanced signal and you run the risk of audio degradation when running further than 10 feet. Still many DJs rely on this type of cable for their events.
