Recreate the Lost City of Pompeii | Getty Villa

Around 2,000 years ago, Pompeii thrived as a vibrant and wealthy city. However, in A.D. 79, the nearby Mount Vesuvius volcano erupted. In matter of hours, Pompeii, along with its population of approximately 10,000 residents, disappeared beneath a thick layer of ash. Inspired by the historical significance, J. Paul Getty made the decision to recreate the essence and aesthetic of one of the original luxurious villas in Pompeii, Villa dei Papiri.
