Kenmore Elite induction cooktop problem and solution. See description for solution.

I've been told it needs a new range noise filter board. It is currently unusable. I've read that code 8 means it's noise filter is bad. Update 4/21/18: I just had the noise filter unit installed and the cooktop is back to working as it did when new. Planning to install a whole house surge protector also. The noise filter was $360 on a sears parts site. Installation $155. This unit is the 2003 Kenmore Elite induction 4 burner cooktop. Independant repairman said it's a much better, heavier built unit than what's being sold now. UPDATE:. It has been 2 years 7 months since this unit was repaired. It is still working fine dispute occasional power fluctuations and outages due to storms. Three months ago, in September 2020, we had a whole house surge protector installed on the outdoor power panel for additional protection.
Update Dec 15, 2021: Unit is still working fine. Was well worth getting it repaired.
