Is Bayer blackmailing America? Glyphosate, also known as roundup, is an herbicide originally produced by Monsanto and purchased by Bayer in 2018. After being ordered to pay billions in penalties from several lawsuits claiming roundup causes cancer, Bayer has now informed farmers, retailers, and suppliers that it may be forced to pull it from the market – a move that could leave U.S. farmers dependent on glyphosate imports from China. Bayer appears is in some ways trying to blackmail various US states to provide them with some legislative relief or force suppliers to import glyphosate at a time tariffs have completely chocked off trade from China, which I’m sure is just a coincidence. Bayer has even petitioned the US Supreme Court for a ruling that the Federal Insecticide, Fungicide, and Rodenticide Act bars these personal injury suits.
