White and Bright Interior Design Transformation in Palmetto Bluff | Southern Grace Interiors

For this project, we were tasked with turning a Palmetto Bluff house into our clients' dream vacation home. When this family visits the Lowcountry, they want to relax and enjoy one another without feeling disconnected. Unfortunately, the existing layout of the house made this goal challenging to achieve. Enter the Southern Grace Interiors team!

In order to establish greater continuity and connectivity throughout the home, we began by adding texture to the two-story foyer. A simple yet impactful board and batten treatment instantly elevated the space and gave this high-traffic area the ability to better withstand fingerprints and scuff marks. It also happens to be visually stunning, and added a much-needed dose of drama and scale to this incredible stairwell.

Next up? Completely gutting and transforming the kitchen, which had a non-functional layout and felt closed off from the adjoining living and dining spaces. In addition to removing all cabinets and appliances, we completely reoriented the layout by removing a wall and adding an open bar. We also repainted the existing shiplap, installed simple white Shaker cabinets, selected gorgeous yet durable quartz countertops, and changed out all fixtures and finishes. In lieu of incorporating a vent hood into the design scheme, the large 6-burner gas range—a star of the kitchen—was positioned beneath a window and equipped with a downdraft to help whisk away fumes. The final result is updated and bright, and much more conducive to family life!

The butler's pantry was modernized with open shelving and dramatic backsplash tile. Mixed metals and warm brass lighting added another layer of dimension that elevated the entire aesthetic.

Last but certainly not least, we sanded and refinished all of the beautiful red oak flooring throughout the home. While the original dark stain was beautiful, this home has a lot of shade and the wraparound porch brings in filtered light. By refinishing the floors in a light gray stain with a matte finish, we were able to create a natural, airy, coastal look that blended with the finish on the ceiling beams. Decorative accents including coral, oyster shells, and brass lanterns added a final dose of Lowcountry charm throughout the home.
