What is the Equal Length & Single Midpipe Hybrid?

The S55 is notorious for the two-3 cilinder sound it produces with the stock-like exhaust setup. This is due to the unequal length between the exhausts of the first three cilinders and the last three cilinders. The downpipe from Cilinder 1 to 3 is longer than the one from Cilinder 4-6. This means that when the exhaust gasses finally mix into the exhaust, the exhaust pulses are not reaching the mixing point at the same time, causing the rough sound the S55 traditionally make. If you just use two pipes to the back box, the car will sound loud, but also very raspy and will still have the two-3 cilinder sound characteristic.

The Equal Length principle is to equal the length between both exhaust pipes first, before mixing them together in the center of the exhaust. This gives the exhaust a higher pitch, creating a very lovely sound profile which is loved by many. But in stainless steel however, this exhaust setup is known for the raspy sound it creates around the 2000-2500 rpm mark, especially with non-resonated midpipes.

The single midpipe is a large 2 into 1 midpipe that allows for both exhaust banks to mix in one big midpipe. This midpipe is known for the deeper tones it create, but it also loses some of the higher notes that makes a traditional straight six scream. The single midpipe is a incredible solution to create a more deeper exhaust sound, but you will still have the S55 roughness in the exhaust note.
The DCE Parts Equal Length and Single Midpipe Hybrid

The DCE Parts Equal Length and Single Midpipe Hybrid is an innovative solution that is designed to combine the best of both worlds. The Equal Length section is designed to create the higher pitch we are after to make the straight six sound more like a traditional straight six. With the resonators, we tune down the raspiness in the exhaust to make sure the exhaust note remains high pitched but also filters out the nasty raspiness in the exhaust. The single midpipe section then tones down the exhaust pitch in lower revs, creating more bass in the exhaust sound. Then, we decided to offer this exhaust in titanium which creates a warmer sound profile. These aspects allow for an incredible sound to come out of the S55 which we have not heard before.
