Faiyaz Khan is a legend of Hindustani Classical music. He belonged to the legendary Agra Gharana. He was born in Sikandra near Agra. Considered a Neo-classicist by some scholars of Hindustani classical music, Faiyaz Khan was known for his robust voice and impeccable gayaki and taankari. Faiyaz Khan specialized in singing Dhrupad and Khayal but he was also capable of singing Thumris and Ghazalas. For a long time Faiyaz Khan served as court musician of Sir Sayaji Rao Gaekwad, the Maharaja of Baroda. In this court Faiyaz Khan was awarded with the title of "Gyan Ratna" which literally meant Gem of Knowledge. Maharaja of Mysore awarded Faiyaz Khan with the title "Aftab-e-Mousiqui" which meant The Sun of Music. Faiyaz Khan was a regular performer in various musical conferences organized by the patrons of Hindustani Classical Music, who were mainly all the provincial princes and the princely states who all wanted Faiyaz Khan to perform in their respective courts. Faiyaz Khan held a very high place in the cort of Baroda where he was allowed to seat just next to the Maharaja for all official ceremonies. Faiyaz Khan was loved by all for his sweet nature and simplicity. Faiyaz Khan was invited by Rabindranath Tagore to come and perform at the Jorashanko Thakur Bari. The poet was a great fan of Faiyaz Khan's singing.

Another song Pawan Chalat based on the raga chhaya showcases Faiyaz Khan's emotional texture.
