Husaberg FS 650 water pump rebuild - When the water pump leaks your engine can get destroyed if someone did the modification on it like in this video.
We want to disassemble the water pump to replace the shaft seals and an o-ring. The bike was consuming cooling water and maybe the engine is destroyed already but we dont know yet. It was running only 10 minutes without water. Because the oil is mixed up with water we drain the oil first. How the motor oil looks is really bad, a lot of water is mixed to it. We dismount the exhaust, the shift lever and kick start lever next. Afterwards the water hose is removed and the water pump cover dismounted. The next step is to dismount the big engine cover where the clutch sits unterneath. But be careful with the shafts and seals!
What we find underneath is pretty bad again. The water pump is rusty and the circlip barely exists anymore. Everything inside the motor is very slimy as expected.
With the water pump housing on the bench we replace the shaft seal. It was mounted in the wrong direction but thats not our biggest problem. We knew that there must be a leaking hole the water can drain through if the shaft seal gets worn. But someone closed this hole with sealant, maybe because the pump was leaking?? This is sooo bad because it can destroy the whole engine! Exactly what happened to our engine will happen if the shaft seal gets bad. So we definetly open the draining hole and mount a new shaft seal. Then everything is mounted to the engine in backwards order.
