Belgian police chiefs are now warning Parliament that migrant launch activity along the Belgian coastline is rapidly escalating as pressure shifts away from Calais and Dunkirk.

Authorities say 33 launch attempts have already taken place in recent months — a major increase for Belgium, which historically saw only one or two launch attempts per year.

Officials also allege that some individuals linked to smuggling operations have been used to physically block police during launch attempts, raising fears that the Channel crisis is evolving into a far more confrontational situation.

This comes as Britain signs a new £662 million border security agreement with France aimed at disrupting the smuggling networks driving the crossings.
