JUST INTONATION in Gestrument. Ambient exploration of intervals and tuning.

Dipping my toes into a whole new world - the more ‘cosmic’ side of music…it’s frequencies, tunings, intervals, geometry, mathematics and connection to the universe! Oh my! What a rabbit hole…..😳
(and now for…) Something completely different….for me.

When looking for a synth that has control over tunings Gestrument was my first thought and although it’s teetering on the edge of IAA’s demise it still works well - it’s an old friend and I still love it!
All sounds here are in the altered tuning of Just Intonation - the tuning of musical intervals as whole number ratios (such as 3:2 or 4:3) which are said to be more ‘pure’ (as appose to equal temperament which is more convenient but has irrational-number frequency ratios).

Letting the frequencies (notes) breathe and harmonise requires some degree of ambience and space within which to form relationship - Mani’s Stratosphere app is perfect for this with its long decay time.
Also added some Flux Mini for some subtle gating effects.

Reading material is currently - ‘How Equal Temperament Ruined Harmony’ and ‘The Healing Forces of Music’ to try and better understand all of this….
