Where do the Scandinavians come from?
A piece of the puzzle is DNA from a man who lived about 9000 years ago, whose remains were found at an excavation in Stora Bjers, Gotland. Wallenberg Academy Fellow Mattias Jakobsson, professor at Uppsala University, is working on mapping our evolutionary history. His studies show that only 5-10% of the genetic code from the man matches today's Scandinavians and that the Swedes' DNA is a product of several immigration waves, a mix of all the peoples who have migrated into Scandinavia since the ice withdrew more than 10,000 years ago.
