How to Check Your Tension | Get Started in Crochet | Hobbycraft
Learn how to check tension in crochet to ensure you’re matching the right crochet hook with your pattern! Get Started In Crochet: https://www.hobbycraft.co.uk/get-started/crochet
Using either a knitting ruler or a standard ruler, this is an easy way to keep crochet stitches correctly spaced and work on the right track.
Each crochet pattern has a tension which states how many stitches and rows to 10cm you should have. Before you start a project, be sure to stitch up a tension square to make sure it matches. If you have too many stitches and rows, you need to go up a hook size; if you haven’t got enough, go down a hook size. If you don’t check tension, you could end up with a garment that’s bigger or smaller than it should be.
Our tutorial demonstrates how easy it is to check your tension for crochet stitches using a swatch and ruler, breaking down crochet for beginners who are totally new to it. Discover more guidance on how to master all things crochet with the other videos in our Get Started in Crochet series.
