DESCRIPTION:
I have known so many DIYers who have been having problems with their setup regarding wire gauges. Most have been suffering voltage drops and power loss due to using the wrong wire size. I have also received multiple queries via private messages asking why their cable wires heat up and why they experience a sudden voltage drop with their system.

This tutorial covers the whole wiring system of a solar off-grid setup from the solar panel array to the solar charge controller, SCC to the battery bank, battery bank to the inverter, and from the inverter to AC loads.

The formula being used here is first, the “Power Law” and the second is the “VDI Method” or Voltage Drop Index Method, which I believe is the easiest way to do the calculation and the best way for finding out the right cable wire size for the whole setup.

CORRECTIONS:
Apologies for these two minor errors @05:05 In my head I was thinking of current, but I was honestly surprised to discover on the video which is too late for edits. Isc is "Short Circuit Current", not Short Circuit Voltage. Also @35:50 I used "DU AC Voltage" instead of the inverter's AC Voltage. Please have it corrected with the formula shown below.

I must have been slept walking during this time. All I was thinking was to finish the video up to a very late night. I have all this stuff done right in my head, but the video said otherwise. 🤓 ✌️ I'm only human after all.

IMPORTANT:
According to IEEE rule B-23, at any point between power supply terminal and installation, Voltage drop should not increase above 2.5% of the provided (supply) voltage.
