Tom Lehrer: The Elements (concert live) (1959)
The first part of the video (my signature slide) is overlaid by the final bars of "Hail to Bermuda", which I played on my keyboard.
The main part of the song is one of Tom Lehrer's live performed songs, "The Elements". It is part of Tom's first published live performance album, "An Evening Wasted With Tom Lehrer". But I obtained the actual music from the box set, "The Remains of Tom Lehrer", which was released in 2000. Enjoy.
And the last part is the main theme of "The Phantom of the Opera", by Andrew Lloyd Webber. Simply the 'cherry on top', and my personal song.
Here's the description Tom Lehrer himself made about the song: "'The Elements' is simply a setting of 102 chemical elements to the tune of the Major-General's song from 'The Pirates Of Penzance' by Gilbert and Sullivan; the words of its last line were true as of the date of the recording, but presumably will not remain so for long. [Here I must acknowledge another debt to Danny Kaye. In the 1941 Broadway show 'Lady In The Dark' he sang a song called 'Tschaikowsky,' with words by Ira Gershwin and music by Kurt Weill, in which he rattled off at lightning speed the names of 50 Russian composers. I used to sing it at parties, and, on the basis of my success with it, eventually decided to make up my own list song.]"
Sorry I gave so much information about the music earlier. I don't want to get screwed by stupid WMG again. They are a bunch of arse-holes. And to make sure I am not screwed, have them read the following credits:
