Saint Dorothy | Stories of Saints

Saint Dorothy, a 4th-century Christian martyr, faced persecution under the Roman Emperor Diocletian. Refusing to renounce her faith, she endured torture and ultimately martyrdom. Legend holds that an angel brought her fruit and flowers while imprisoned, inspiring her steadfastness. She famously told her persecutors she would send them apples and roses from heaven.

Miraculously, as she faced execution, a child delivered these gifts. Dorothy's courage and unwavering faith in the face of adversity have made her a revered figure in Christianity. She is celebrated as the patron saint of gardeners and horticulturists. Her feast day is commemorated on February 6 in the Roman Catholic Church and December 24 in the Eastern Orthodox Church.
