This is Vanta File 002, an investigation into the AI grandparent scam — the fastest-growing branch of elder fraud in North America, and the engine behind one of the largest voice-cloning operations ever prosecuted in the United States.

Between summer 2021 and June 2024, a network of call centers in suburban Montreal, run under the aliases Muscles, Elvis, Blondie, Happy, Honda, and Toast, defrauded hundreds of elderly Americans across 46 states out of more than $21 million. Federal prosecutors in Vermont indicted 25 Canadians in February 2025. Five ringleaders face up to 40 years in prison.
