Location: Maryland
Date: October 28th and 29th, 2015
Primary Pattern: The bass didn't follow the rules so no pattern was established :P
Time Fished: Day 1 12:30 pm - 7:00 pm, Day 2 10:30 am - 12:30 pm and 1:30 pm - 3:30 pm
Air Temp: High of 66 degrees, low of 63 degrees
Water Temp: 60 degrees
Water Clarity: 12-15 inches
Conditions: Raining with winds from the SE up to 17 mph
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Overview - Geez... What a slam that was! Who would've thought I'd have to stretch the slam over 25 hours to complete it after catching the first bass in less than 5 minutes?! The conditions were ideal for a shallow bite at the Johns Hopkins APL pond. The water levels were slightly raised, plenty of wind, and a steady rain. Based on my knowledge and experiences I've had bass fishing, the bass should have been pushed up shallow against the rocks ready to eat! That was certainly the case for the first fish I caught, but after that, it was like I had caught the only bass in the whole freakin pond!
I did manage a couple solid hits on the spinnerbait, but I was too lazy to throw on a trailer hook when I unboxed it and that may have costed me a fish because just minutes after installing the trailer hook, I lost the bait due to a snag -_-
The fishing DIED once I started throwing plastics. I throw em deep, shallow, worked em agonizingly slow, hopped em around rocks, swam em, dragged em, you name it, I tried it! The fish just did not want anything to do with plastics that day, and I've had experience with both plastics before and have caught plenty of bass on each of them.
I felt utterly defeated after failed to catch any bass as nightfall approached. Soaking wet, freezing, and disheartened, I drove back with the bitter taste of my first MTB slam defeat in my mouth. The next morning I woke up and realized the MTB slam should really be a 24-hour event. I threw my gear in the car and drove back over to the pond.
