[BRACES EXPLAINED] Detailing Wire Bends
Braces Explained: Detailing Wire Bends
In this video, I will be talking about something that you may notice later on in your treatment when you see your orthodontist bending wire. Wire can be bent by orthodontist for a number of reasons but the reason I’m going to discuss in this video is for “finishing and detailing bends.” Braces can be put on as ideally as possible but once all your teeth are lined up, your orthodontist may notice that a few teeth need minor adjustments. Brackets can either be repositioned to achieve the ideal goal or the wire can be bent to achieve the sought after result!
In this video, I discuss two different types of detailing wire bends: a “step” bend and a “z” bend. The example I use in this video is a step-up bend to help a lower premolar that is too intruded be extruded to its ideal position. Also I demonstrate a z-bend on a premolar that is tipped too far forward (or mesial). This will correct the root by moving it more towards the front of the mouth and uprighting the slanted crown
