Present Your Bodies as a Living Sacrifice

In Romans 12, St. Paul tells us to present our bodies as a living sacrifice. What does this mean? And is Paul using some ambiguous metaphorical language or is he using cultic and sacrificial language that would have meant something more specific for a Jewish audience in light of the temple sacrificial system?
