A classical adaption featuring 3 iconic themes from Beethoven’s piano masterpiece. This fingerstyle arrangement is segmented into 3 themes: Melody A, B, and C. Melody A and C are largely the same, differing in only 1 bar (the endings). Melody A and C consits of a minor sounding theme (based around A minor to E Major). On the contrast, Melody B is completely unique and introduces a brief change to a Major sounding theme (based around C and G Major).
Set in 3/4, our rhythm consists (almost) entirely of steady eighth notes. The chords in Melody A and C are familiar shapes, but Melody B introduces new shapes via a melodic walk-down. Familiarize yourself with these chords before attempting to fingerpick that section. The trickiest bars in this tune are 13-16. This section sees us playing an E5 chord that utilizes an awkward stretch. In part 2 of the lesson video, we will be discussing the best way to handle this stretch chord. I’d also recommend reviewing our lesson on our increasing left hand reach, if stretch chords are new to you.
