First proper jump in ages! | GoPro

I’ve only jumped Magic once since our little Chase Me Charlie at the end of last year, and that was a couple of weeks ago just over some small cross poles, so it was lovely to actually have a proper little pop again! Obviously because we’ve not been jumping a lot recently, we’ve instead been working on flat and pole work for the last couple of months, and hopefully you can see the difference it has made! Magic felt so much stronger and more balanced compared to the end of last year, and I never thought I’d get him to trot in so calmly and quietly to any kind of fence, particularly a double which he finds doubly exciting! 😁

As you can see we still had some issues after the second fence with him immediately swinging round to the right (I am trying to stop him from doing this in the video, but my leg is simply not strong enough to counteract the strength of a 500kg horse), but this was mainly just from the excitement of jumping and an ingrained bad habit, so although it wasn’t ideal, it also wasn’t the end of the world as there were far more positives in this lesson than negatives. We actually worked on steering after a jump in our next lesson together (next week’s video) and it went really well, so don’t worry, we are working on it!
