PRE WORKOUT SMOOTHIE - What I Have Before Cycling

A good pre workout smoothie doesn't have to be complicated. Today I make a simple plant based, whole food smoothie before I go cycling because I'm convinced natural plant based wholefoods are superior to any pre or post workout supplements you can buy on the market.

I typically have this kind of smoothie (sometimes a juice, or even just a coffee) before cycling on my race bike, so keep in mind that my pre workout nutrition would probably be a little different if I were doing a strength session or lifting weights and my focus would be on rebuilding rather than performance, in that case i'd more than likely make a green smoothie with more vegetable nutrition.

Here are my pre workout smoothie ingredients:

1) Beetroot - inorganic nitrates and vasodilation

2) Pineapple - Fructose and the enzyme bromelain

3) Pear - Love the taste of pear to sweeten things up

4) Banana - potassium for energy and preventing cramps

5) Distilled water - 1 glass
