Paul Bangay's Stonefields garden
Costa Georgiadis visits the home of one of Australia’s best-known garden designers – Paul Bangay.
Paul is known for his precise, formal gardens created in inner city suburbs, but at Stonefields he has designed a garden on grand scale, with the whole house and garden based around a glorious view across the central Victorian highlands.
Paul explains that he aims to build drama for visitors arriving at Stonefields: the driveway leads you past centuries-old gum trees, through a gatehouse, then walking in via a small courtyard, which leads you around a tight, enclosed corner to a big reveal as the house and breath-taking view are finally exposed.
Paul has won an OAM for his services to landscape gardening, but this is the home he created for himself and husband Barry.
