So as a drummer, we are always focused on timing, patterns, repetition (or lack of), tonality etc. Often times this means that perfection is something we chase but in reality many times come up short and/or frustrated to some degree.
I decided to go the Punk route today so I could just throw that all out the window, play loud, hit hard, be sloppy and get out some energy. There is something VERY liberating in that as a drummer. It was much fun indeed. A very satisfying 2min 42 seconds indeed because no good punk tune should eclipse 3 minutes :)
The Ex-Idols were an American band formed in Los Angeles, California in 1992 by Gary "X" Finneran, Keith Kessinger, Sean DeMott, and Lance Porter. Originating in the heart of the Los Angeles / Hollywood underground rock clubs, the band quickly gained interest due to their outstanding songwriting and talented vocalist "Gary X" (Gary "X" Finneran). Within their first year of forming the band signed with Relativity Records, established a publishing deal with BMI (Broadcast Music, Inc.), and replaced original guitar player with notable punk guitarist Duke Decter due to artistic differences. The band was short-lived due to the chemical dependencies among the band members resulting in the suicide/death of singer/songwriter Gary "X" Finneran.
I was a big fan back in the day and decided to take a stab at this song which i always loved. I hope you have fun with it as well!!
As always, i record my live drums over a drumless track in 1 take (For better or worse) and we get what we get!
Equipment:
Muzzio MX Maple Custom Drums
Pearl Mimic Pro
Muzzio Inertia Hardware
