Curiosity Before Story | MTR Episode 106

In this episode of Move the Room, I talk about why curiosity comes before storytelling and how the ability to observe the world around you shapes the depth and authenticity of the stories you tell.

I’ve often said that if you want to become a better storyteller, you need to tell more stories. That’s true. But before that comes something even more important: curiosity.

In this episode, I break down how meaningful stories are gathered long before they are told. From body language and emotional awareness to physical environments and subtle human behavior, I share how observation becomes the raw material for narrative depth.

I also talk about the difference between being observant and being intrusive, why emotional intelligence matters in storytelling, and how caring deeply about people sharpens your ability to notice what others overlook.

The storyteller who gathers well rarely runs out of material because their stories are grounded in lived and observed experience.

Storytelling does not begin when you start speaking.
It begins in how you move through the world, how you listen, and how much you genuinely care about the people around you.
