Marconi MkIII TV camera from BBC TV Dickinson Road studio, Manchester
Here I am in my amateur radio shack with my 405/625-switchable Marconi Mk.III TV Camera and CCU (camera control unit). It was take one of the recording as my mum was the other side of a door cooking and I didn't want her to hear. So it's not pperfect but will do.
A manager at work had tipped me off about the camera going for free in Dickinson Road studio in Manchester when it was closed, so took my trusty VW Beetle with a friend and we lugged it out, the heavy cable and its CCU. The back of the Beetle was totally weighed down but the torsion bars took it and we got home slowly!. The CCU ran up OK at home but as I didn't have the camera's focus supply I never got it going....
At work we then recorded an OB at the National Media Museum, Bradford and the Camera Supervisor, Dave Taylor, happened to mention to the tech guy that I had this camera. I don't know his name but the tech guy produced a lens that I could put on it. Thanks!
Eventuallly some guy who makes a living out of hiring out old TV cameras to film companies nabbed it off me for free, saying he just collected them. If you see a Marconi Mk.III in a film, ad or TV programme it's probably this one, without me receiving a penny.
