10 Reasons to Fly the Black Shark & How it compares to other Helos

Every air-frame in DCS can be engaging for different reasons. The Shark has many reasons it's different, and all of them stem from your engagement. Automated radars and acquisition are functional and effective and sometimes easy to use... but if you wanted something different...

I didn't go into the specifics of every other helo's stats, just the elements I thought were most different.
Unfortunately I'm too rusty atm with the A10c II's helmet or F/A18c to record some nice kills with those. If you're trying to rack up kills where a jet can approach, the will do more than a helo. A JF-17 cluster glide bomb is going to do the (indiscriminate) job faster. Them's the breaks.

As for the other helos, they're fun, for different reasons. It's maybe less important which one has top speed, extra 500 range on a missile etc. But more-so the role it's supposed to, and good at playing and most importantly: your experience in it.

The Black Shark is the only single-seat helo in DCS at the moment, and quite possibly forever. The sheer volume of things you have to coordinate to be effective is staggering. But when you master that volume, and you understand the commands you can give it, it has many surprises what it can do. Any airframe can have a mission setup to test the limits of skill, any airframe can benefit from mastery and precision, especially in a PVP scenario. Just the Black Shark exponentially gets better with your skill, and being far more capable that the hover & Vikhr or rocket-runs one's used to.

Understand the Black Shark can have milk-run missions. Often. Hovering above a tree-line, shooting Vikhr after Vikhr into tanks it slews onto via the screen. Patience is indeed a factor with the helo game. That's totally viable & sound. I'm glossing over that as it's often common knowledge, and rather showing you the further extremes you can take it to.

Learning the basics (once one gets past the "just hold trim") to fly and shoot is very simple. There is a very deep pond though of things you can learn - most of which enables you to do more with your tank hunting. It's obviously not 'as manual' as a WWII warbird, but many of the same base skills apply in that it's you flying, you acquiring and you locking up - just from there the computers help keep that flight path and range the guns as what's expected of you is quite significant to perform your role.

have many vids on unlocking all these skills, go check them out. Have fun.
