Formula Making { सूत्र निर्माण} Class 11,12 , B.Sc. and basic chemistry

रासायनिक सूत्र (chemical formula) किसी रासायनिक यौगिक को इस प्रकार निरूपित करता है जिससे पता चलता है कि वह यौगिक किन-किन तत्वों के कितने-कितने परमाणुओं से मिलकर बना है। सामान्य प्रयोग में प्रायः अणुसूत्र (molecular formula) के लिये भी 'रासायनिक सूत्र' का ही प्रयोग कर दिया जाता है। उदाहरण: मिथेन का अणुसूत्र प्रा.उ4 (CH4) है जो इंगित करता है कि मिथेन का अणु कार्बन एवं हाइड्रोजन के परमाणुओं से मिलकर बना है तथा मिथेन के एक अणु में कार्बन का एक परमाणु व हाइड्रोजन के चार परमाणु होते हैं। परन्तु इस सूत्र से यह पता नहीं चलता कि कार्बन का एक परमाणु व हाइड्रोजन के ये चार परमाणु किस प्रकार व्यवस्थित हैं। अर्थात ये एक ही समतल में हैं या त्रिबिम में हैं; इनके बंधों के बीच कितना कोण है; बन्धों की लम्बाई कितनी है, आदि का अणुसूत्र से कुछ भी ज्ञान नहीं होता। कई प्रकार के रासायनिक सूत्र उपयोग किये जाते हैं जिनकी अलग-अलग उपयोगिता है और अलग-अलग जटिलता भी।

A chemical formula is a way of presenting information about the chemical proportions of atoms that constitute a particular chemical compound or molecule, using chemical element symbols, numbers, and sometimes also other symbols, such as parentheses, dashes, brackets, commas and plus (+) and minus (−) signs. These are limited to a single typographic line of symbols, which may include subscripts and superscripts. A chemical formula is not a chemical name, and it contains no words. Although a chemical formula may imply certain simple chemical structures, it is not the same as a full chemical structural formula. Chemical formulae can fully specify the structure of only the simplest of molecules and chemical substances, and are generally more limited in power than are chemical names and structural formulae.
