Christopher Venter is a clever fellow. He makes great pedals. This one pays sonic homage to the KC guys and their sound. Robert himself would probably dig the pedal. I sure do. One of the better fuzzes, for sure.
During this video you will see some 'gut shot' footage. It should be noted that this pedal, the Savior Machine Ovedrive and Pixel Synthgate Fuzz that appear in my demos are all hand-wired prototypes. While the circuit remains the same, the pedals that are now commercially available are all built using PCB construction. Please visit the Shoe Pedals links to view current builds.
More from Christopher:
"All the way to the left on the bass cut knob is full bass response. This is a good starting point. As you cut bass it will become more of a middy fuzz/drive. Basically it's a design I came up with when looking to design a nice simple fuzz and it sort of reminded me of a buzzaround/robert fripp sound on the neck pickup (might be cool to show some king crimson on it but it also seems to do well for a gilmour sort of sound). It's also an original design and oddly has almost nothing in common with a buzzaround. On the bridge pickup it's good for grungey/garagey sorts of things as well as stoner rock at times. I've also been able to get some decent sabbath tones out of it as well. It's quite a dark moldy sort of fuzz and as such is intended for use with cleaner amps that would otherwise sound rather harsh with a lot of more traditional fuzz pedals. It especially likes reverb and delay afterwards."
Today's weaponry:
Guitars: Redhouse T-Style with Klein Epic 52 pickups and Les Paul Std. with Manalishi pickups (Peter Green PAF clones by Larry Corsa).
Amp: Laney VH-100R Clean Channel & L412 Cabinet (Greenbacks)
Cables : Providence
Mic : Violet Design 'The Amethyst' (amp) Samson Airline77 (me)
Camera : Canon 60D (me) and Sony HDR CX150 (pedal)
Soundcard : AVID Mbox Pro 3
Computer : Apple iMac 27" i7 3.4 GHz 16 GB RAM
Software : Pro Tools 10 LE, Waves CLA Guitars (slight comp over input track), Waves L3-16 Limiter (to keep levels in check at output), Apple Final Cut Pro X (video editing and Youtube compression).
