I spent 2 weeks learning from the amazing Master Yun Sae Gwan - what a privilege!
In October 2006, after months of investigation and searching, I met Master Yun Sae Gwan in Gwangju in a Coffee-shop. I had seen his amazing videos and wanted to feel his Hapkido in person. What I experienced in that coffee shop made me return a year later to train with him for 2 weeks in Gwangju at his student's Dojang. Master Yun Sae Gwan has a unique approach to self-defence and joint locks that requires no 'magic' - he has worked out great use of small circles, angles and grips that produce immense leverage and create instant pain in the attacker. He is a true master and has created a unique, well though-out approach to joint locks and throws against real attacks. This video catalogues some of his more basic techniques and highlights the principles on which his more advanced techniques are based. Pay attention to his footwork and body positioning - when he does it in real-time you can feel it would cause instant damage to joints, tendons and bones. This video is a gift to the Hapkido community who I hope will recognise the brilliance of this unique and very innovative Hapkido Master.
