The Scariest Hike We've Ever Done: Cloudripper via Cutthroat Chute

We were looking for a challenging hike in the Eastern Sierras, and boy did we find that and more with Cloudripper via Cutthroat Chute! The climb to Cloudripper summit is supposed to be a class 3 climb - IF you can find the correct chute. However, the beta is tricky and GPX is only so accurate, and we quickly found ourselves in a class 4/class 5 chute to the peak. Definitely not what we had planned for, definitely the scariest hike we've ever done, and DEFINITELY awesome!

We can safely say that, in our opinion, the Cloudripper to Vagabond Peak loop is one of the best hikes in the Sierras - the summit offers views from Big Pine Lakes to the Palisade Glacier, Chocolate Peak and the Chocolate Lakes, to Basin Mountain, White Mountain Peak, and beyond into the Sierra Nevada range. This is California hiking at its finest!
