We’re back with another episode from our INDIA FOOD series. In this episode, we are taking you to do something you’ve never seen before. A late night food tour of India’s famous DHABA’s, which are roadside restaurants that serve delicious Indian cuisine (Punjabi and/or vegetarian), and are open 24HR!!! We were driving from Amritsar to Delhi late at night and were hungry, so these Dhaba’s were perfect to satisfy our late-night munchies.

Our first stop was closest to the town of Patiala, where we found an amazing looking non-veg mutton curry (230 INR / 3.22 USD). Served with warm and buttery roti, this filled us up for the long drive ahead. We loved watching these chefs cook at these outdoor STREET FOOD stalls. Next, we stopped at a more modern Dhaba, that served veg-only food. We were kindly invited into the kitchen to watch the cooking process! WOW, these chefs work FAST! We ordered a gobi paratha (cauliflower) and an aloo paratha (potato), which were 80 INR each (USD 1.12). We washed it down with a smooth cup of chai to boost our energy for the long drive ahead. Our last stop was the busiest dhaba of all (and closest to Delhi). We arrived around 1am and could barely find a seat!!! We ordered a plate of mix pakora (various snacks fried in chickpea batter - 99 INR / 1.39 USD), jalebi (deep fried dessert covered in sugar syrup - 75 INR / 1.05 USD) and of course more chai (26 INR / 0.36 USD).

If you ever find yourself on a road trip through India, or find yourself VERY HUNGRY in the middle of the night, these Dhaba’s will serve you some DELICIOUS Indian food at any time of the day, and you can find them EVERYWHERE on India’s main highways.
