4BT Cummins Discovery #25 × Dual Battery Boxes [Land Rover Build]

These 2300 cranking-amps worth of angry pixies need wrangling! Here's how I built my pair of custom battery boxes. A handful of angle iron here, a bit of flat stock there, with a splash of POR15 coating. Passenger's side was relatively straight forward, as I was able to utilize several of the original threaded holes in the fender liner to mount it. Driver's side was more work, what with having no threaded holes to take advantage of. So I drilled & welded in a set of 4 nuts to mount that side solidly to the driver's side fender liner. YES the charge cooler is near the batteries, not much can be done in the space I have. There is still roughly an inch clearance above the batteries & yes the charge cooler's silicone elbows would have to come off to pull a battery... but no worries, not like batteries get pulled every weekend.

~ PART#25 in a project dubbed "Nanuuq" to swap out my lifted Land Rover Discovery 2's blown 4.0L V8 & boring ZF auto for a Cummins 4BT 3.9L turbo (Holset Super HX30W) diesel 4-cylinder engine (Bosch P7100 pump) with an NV4500 5-speed manual transmission. The AWD 4x4 will remain with the LT230 transfer case divorced behind it all, & plenty of Dodge 6BT parts too. Another big phase of my custom DIY build to create a do-just-about-anything off-road / overland rig. Did I mention it's a camper too?
