Rheem 50 Gallon Water Heater UPDATED Review
This video is an updated review to my original review of the Rheem 50 gallon performance gladiator water heater. Please watch this video if you are purchasing or have already purchased this particular water heater. There are some things you should know. Here is my experience:
- 6 months after install, I received an alert via the Rheem app that my water heater service light was on the system detected an A105 error. After resetting the service light, it immediately came on again.
-I noticed that the water out of my faucets was extremely hot, indicating that only the top element was working and remaining on.
- Contacted Rheem customer service who advised that they will send out a certified Rheem plumber at no cost.
- Plumber arrived and advised that he has seen this problem a lot and predicted that the circuit board had failed. Diagnostic test confirmed that the elements were fine, however, the board did indeed fail.
- Plumber contacted Rheem for a replacement board, however, they were out of stock. Rheem authorized a full water heater replacement.
-Gladiator water heater was uninstalled, returned to place of purchase, and I was given a store credit. Using store credit, I purchased the basic Rheem 50 gallon water heater and had it installed.
- I did not need nor was it required by code to have an expansion tank installed, however, the plumber convinced me that it would provide added protection to the water heater over time. All in all, I had to pay for the new expansion tank and the labor associated with installing it.
If you are experiencing similar issues with your Gladiator water heater, don't hesitate to contact Rheem customer service. They were very helpful and prompt.
