The Activision Decathlon (Atari 5200) – The Ultimate 10-Event Challenge!

The Activision Decathlon for the Atari 5200 is a legendary 1983 sports video game created by David Crane and published by Activision. This title challenges players to compete across ten grueling Olympic-style events, including the 100-Meter Dash, Long Jump, Shot Put, High Jump, 400-Meter Race, 110-Meter Hurdles, Discus Throw, Pole Vault, Javelin Throw, and the 1500-Meter Race.

Up to four players can join the competition, testing their timing, endurance, and reflexes as they push for record-breaking scores. The game rewards top athletes with Activision Decathlon Club patches — bronze for 8,600 points, silver for 9,000, and gold for 10,000.

Praised for its impressive programming and fast-paced gameplay, The Activision Decathlon was seen as a technical triumph on the Atari 5200. Its realistic events and competitive multiplayer made it one of the most memorable sports titles of the early 1980s. The game later appeared on multiple platforms, including the Atari 2600, Commodore 64, and MSX, and remains a cornerstone of Activision’s golden era of gaming.
