Single payer systems, while intuitively attractive, have repeatedly failed in other countries. Price controls ultimately restrict supply, and wait times in single-payer systems vastly exceed those in market-based health care systems. In many countries with single payer health care, individuals supplement their “free” coverage with private insurance.
