As a sequel in our Arctic Norway 4K playlist, 'Arctic Frost Sculptures' tells the tantalizing story of the magnificent hoar frost formations depositing on all surfaces when extreme cold temperatures meet high air humidity.

From the stunning frost flowers growing on sea ice to the frozen trees glittering in the first sunlight to the 'cracked ice eggs' formed by tidal ice pressing down on shore boulders, this short film will take you on an exploration journey from the macroscopic to the microscopic level to reveal the shear beauty of these structures!

On a side note, the filming of these was extremely challenging and dangerous. Shooting by -20/-35°C, the gear stopped working multiple times and we had to warm it up to keep going. Also, with the level of humidity, frost was depositing on the slider, which caused shakes and bumps as the camera slid over those tiny crystals. Finally, filming on thin sea ice is not recommended (Don't do this at home, kids!), and on multiple occasions, our rig was inches short of falling through the ice along with us and get lost! Fortunately, we made sure to stay next to shore and the water were only shallow (less than a meter deep), but it would for sure have been fatal for our gear!
