Did you know you can get the new Volkswagen Touareg with a twin-turbo V8 engine? It’s only natural if you don’t, because nothing about the design shouts that fact. In fact, you have to work overtime to spot the subtle V8 badge in the grille. Just the way we like it: understated.

A very small allocation of the diesel V8 Touareg has reached Australia, in the final run of the four-litre V8 from Volkswagen. So, if this kind of luscious torque floats your boat, you will need to get in quick. But at over $130,000, the eight-cylinder Touareg isn’t cheap, even if it is substantially more affordable than an Audi SQ7 with the same engine, or a Mercedes-AMG GLE 63, or BMW X5 M50i.
