My question is: “what is it like to walk alone at night as a woman?” When brainstorming for my final cumulative project I determined that the best way to illustrate the answer to this question would be to put the viewer in my shoes. For this project, I used two 180° cameras to make a video compatible with a Google Cardboard viewer in order to simulate a virtual reality. In addition to the video I created a sound piece which consists of several anxiety producing instrumentals. The goal was to create a scene that produces fear, regardless of gender. I believe I have accomplished this with the combination of visuals and heightened sounds. This project is called “a woman walking at night.” The simple title reflects the nature of the issue. Women are afraid in the most ordinary situations--like walking to our car. It is necessary to assume the worst in order to stay safe.
