Over the last 15 years Lyme disease has become one of the most controversial and politicized diseases in medicine with vastly different views about how to make the diagnosis and how to effectively treat patients. Richard A. Jacobs, Emeritus Professor, Division of Infectious Diseases at UCSF, reviews the historical aspects of the disease and explores the often contentious controversies surrounding diagnosis and therapy.
