A Day on the NC500 Pt3 A Ferry Good Reason to visit Ullapool

The final part of the series following the day out on and around a small part of the NC500. On arrival in Ullapool I was certainly not expecting to see the ferry arrive from Stornoway, and it makes an interesting contrast to that tiny little thing we saw in Cromarty. Even allowing for that, the town (is it a town?) is unbelievably busy, and that has to be down to the tourist trade brought by the NC500. Perhaps that route is now the victim of its own success as one hears of accidents on the very narrow bits, caused by drivers of huge campervans that won't slow down, or who misjudge the width of their vehicles. Plus reports of masses of rubbish and other horrible things regularly found just dumped. That is indeed a shame for the NC500 has some of the most stunning scenery around. One problem in Ullapool during the season. Queues for the fish and chip shop can be an hour long!! Anyone for a fried Mars bar? On the way back to the hotel we pass the lengthy Loch Glascarnoch with its hydroelectric dam before rejoining the first part of the NC500 for the journey back to Strathpeffer.
