Today we go over the Michael Bay film about Benghazi. It’s a mixed bag really. There is a clear political purpose to this movie that overrides what would otherwise be quite good. Also the source material causes some problems as well.

13 Hours: The Secret Soldiers of Benghazi (also known simply as 13 Hours) is a 2016 American biographical war film directed and co-produced by Michael Bay and written by Chuck Hogan, based on Mitchell Zuckoff's 2014 book 13 Hours. The film follows six members of a security team who fight to defend the American diplomatic compound in Benghazi, Libya after waves of terrorist attacks on September 11, 2012. The film stars James Badge Dale, John Krasinski, Max Martini, Pablo Schreiber and Toby Stephens.
Filming began on April 27, 2015 in Malta and Morocco. The film was released on January 15, 2016, by Paramount Pictures. Upon release, 13 Hours received generally mixed reviews from critics and audiences, with many claiming the script and storytelling were lame and unoriginal, despite, the film gained praise for its action sequences, stunts, acting, direction and effects. The film grossed just $69 million worldwide against a budget of $50 million, becoming Bay's lowest-grossing film to-date.
The film received an Academy Award nomination for Best Sound Mixing at 89th Academy Awards.[4]
