Unboxing TS Photo Line 102 APO
Unboxing of the Teleskop Service Photo Line 102 APO. I bought the telescope from AstroSweden which I highly recommend. The scope is a doublet with FPL53 and Lanthan. This glas combination is supposed to make the color correction of the doublet as good or even better than an FPL51 triplet. Using a doublet is better in the cold temperatures which we experience up here in Skellefteå, Sweden. Triplets and scopes with even more lenses have a higher risk of pinching of the optics in the cold. A doublet is also lighter, this one is about 4kg, which is good for my medium class mount the Celestron AVX.
The focuser is 2.5" so it should not cause any vinjetting. It is rotateable which is really nice for framing bigger objects. The 2" adapter uses a rotolock which means it grabs evenly around the inserted 2" reducer and minimizes the risc for tilting of the camera or reducer. It is supposed to be able to hold very heavy cameras but that is not something I will explore since I use a non cooled astro camera which is really light or a mirrorless OMD which is also very light.
This telescope is very similiar to William Optics Zenithstar 103, Altair Astro 102ed-r, Stellarvue Access 102 and a number of other brands. There is also a cheaper FPL51 version of this scope which does not have as good color correction. For imaging I believe it is worth it to buy the Photo Line APO version.
I will use the scope with a 0.6 Long Perng reducer/flattener. There might be needed some tweaking of the distance to the sensor to get the best edge correction. We are soon entering galaxy season and for such small objects I don't see a problem in cropping if that will be needed, so the tweaking might be postponed until summer 2021.
