Lynda Bellingham - The Oxo Mum
NEW. A montage of all (I think, maybe one or two missing) the Oxo family commercials starring the late Lynda Bellingham as 'mum' from Christmas 1984 (not 1983 as stated by press) to 1999.
It wasn't until I was putting this together that I realised it actually does follow a story, especially when we see the son, 'Nick' (Blair McKihan) complete his exams, split up with his girlfriend, go off to university, the worry on his mum's face as she thinks he won't be having a good meal to him leaving university and settling into a new house with his new partner (played by Nadia Sawalha). Mum then realises all her children have left home and her and her husband 'Michael' (Michael Redfern) go off to reflect the time they first met in Preston before the poignant last family meal as they sell off the house. This is a story up there with the coffee commercials and BT ads which followed similar traits in the 1980s, the like in which I don't think we'll see again as ads today have to be fast-paced and mostly nonsense for a multi-channel era.
Arguably this is one of Lynda's finest moments, she loved acting, playing 'mother' roles and of course Christmas.
(Yes I did add the song at the end but it didn't fade-in correctly despite several attempts)
"Time to go...."
